Dear Colleagues,
It is with great satisfaction that we share the book “Food and Agriculture in Urbanized Societies: Pathways for a Better Future”. Edited by Sergio Schneider, Potira V. Preiss and Terry Marsden, it is the newest volume of the Research in Rural Sociology and Development Series from Emerald Publishing.
The book has 9 chapters from leading and emerging scholars and practitioners from around the world. Besides the editors, it presents contributions from Tim Lang, Gianluca Brunori, Hannah Wittman, Marc Wegerif, Evan Bowness, Javier Couretot, Graciela Ottmann, Antonio Lattuca, among other colleagues.
It reflects on the urgency to redirect the food systems pathways, drawing from the debates set on the Third International Conference on Agriculture and Food in an Urbanized Society held on Brazil in 2018, to the striking of COVID-19 pandemic and its cascading effects to global food supply, as well as the highly rhetoric and frustrating outcomes from UN Food Systems Summit on 2021.
The publication is dedicated to Flaminia Ventura – a tenacious agrifood scholar and generous colleague, as well to all of those who spend time, energy and engagements to fight against hunger, climate change and social inequalities in these uncertain and disruptive times.
